On the first day of Fishmas my dear love sent to me… a Christmas Tree worm!
This polychaete worm (Spirobranchus giganteus) lives in the Caribbean and Indo-Pacific.
Fun fact: you will always see these “trees” in pairs because they come from ONE worm! Each “tree” is a specialized mouth appendage used for filter feeding and breathing attached to the same animal.
You can find more information about Christmas Tree worms here and here.
Looking forward to following all the way through the 12 days of Christmas 🙂
Thanks! Glad you like it. Wait ’til you see what we post next! Hint: it’s bigger than a worm…
Wait until you see what we have in store for Valentine’s Day!
