Joe Cunningham is a sound designer, an experienced folk musician and songwriter, and a veteran of the United States Navy.
Joe Cunningham is founder of Manhattan-based New York Sound and an eternal explorer. Joe grew up along the southern coast of California, where he spent a good deal of time on the water. At age 17 he joined the Navy, and traveled all over the world by sea.
Combining his talent for music and his passion for photography, Joe became a composer and sound designer for television and film. In 1997, he opened up his own studio in Manhattan, called New York Sound.
Joe met Ted Caplow in the late 1990s in New York. They discovered their shared passions for sailing, the oceans, and exploration. Joe has frequently joined Ted on his ecological explorations, ranging from measuring oxygen levels in the coastal bogs of Maine, to sailing across the Caribbean basin and in the Mediterranean, through the building of the Science Barge on the Hudson River.
Documentary film making is a natural culmination of Joe’s interests and experience. He has three daughters and lives in Westchester County, NY.
